At first everything goes smoothly, but then the Starship turns into a ball of fire. Musk undeterred: “Mars, here we are!” A prototype of the new, large SpaceX Starship rocket went up in flames during the landing maneuver after a test flight. The private US space company was nevertheless satisfied with the test flight in the south of the state of Texas: “Super test. Congratulations to the Starship team,” wrote SpaceX about a picture of the remains of the rocket. Starship will one day bring astronauts to Mars.

The launch of the rocket prototype went correctly on Wednesday. After the rocket had flown a distance in a straight line, the three drives were switched off one after the other. After 4 minutes and 45 seconds, the missile began landing. During the landing maneuver, the drives were activated again in order to bring the missile into the correct position. But the pressure in the fuel tank was too low, so that the speed when the rocket touched down was too high, as SpaceX founder Elon Musk later wrote on Twitter. One of the engines exploded, turning the missile into a ball of fire. The first routine mission of a manned SpaceX rocket to the International Space Station started in November.
