Wisconsin is demanding money from Trump for recount

The Wisconsin electoral commission has asked incumbent US President Donald Trump to make an advance payment of almost $ 8 million for a possible re-counting of votes. US media had forecast that President-elect Joe Biden would win the state of Wisconsin and its 10 votes. According to unofficial results, Biden leads Trump with 20,470 votes. That is a difference of 0.62 percent. This tight result allows for a recount if the losing candidate requests one. However, since Biden’s lead is more than 0.25 percent, state law requires the Trump administration to prepay the estimated cost of the recount. Meagan Wolfe, Wisconsin’s top electoral officer, justified the high amount, according to CNN, with the additional expense caused by the corona pandemic. The deadline for the request for a recount and the transmission of the counting costs ends on Wednesday at 5 p.m. This is also the only day on which the Trump campaign can apply. The recount must be completed by December 1st. According to state law, this is also the deadline for the electoral commission to officially confirm the results.
