The contested swing states will decide the outcome of the US election. As expected, US President Trump wins in Texas. It also asserts itself in Florida and Ohio. Challenger Biden secures Minnesota – and the Republican stronghold of Arizona.  As expected, US President Donald Trump won the White House race in the state of Texas with 38 voters. He also won the important Swing State Florida with its 29 voters against the Democrat Joe Biden. The CNN reported, among other things. Biden, in turn, secured the embattled state of Arizona, which has long been considered a safe bastion of the Republicans. This was reported by the AP news agency on the basis of voter surveys and vote counts. For Trump, Florida is one of the most competitive swing states with 29 voters. In 2016, Trump just won there. At that time he was only 1.2 percentage points ahead of the then Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. It is an important stage win for Trump. Without the state, his path to the 270 voters necessary for victory would have been extremely difficult. His challenger Biden still has ways to win without Florida, based on the pre-election polls.

According to the US media, Trump has done well in districts with a high proportion of Latino populations. In populous Miami-Dade County, in particular, Biden received fewer votes than he would have needed to win the state. The swing states – i.e. those whose political preferences had swung back and forth in previous elections – are particularly decisive for the outcome of the election. The US president has so far also prevailed in the swing states of Ohio (18 voters) and Iowa (6). Biden won in New Hampshire (4) and Minnesota (10). With Arizona he also brought a state that was previously considered to be conservative. Since the election year 1952, Republican presidential candidates have almost always won there. The exception was the 1996 election year, when Democrat Bill Clinton was up there. In 2016, Trump was 3.5 percentage points ahead of then-candidate Hillary Clinton. Surveys there recently saw Biden just in the lead. In the state, both major parties thus had a chance of winning the election. The result in Pennsylvania (20), where Trump is in the lead, could be extremely important. However, it will take some time for the votes to be counted. Pennsylvania Governor Democrat Tom Wolf said on Twitter that there are more than a million postal votes to be counted. Results are also pending in North Carolina (15), Georgia (16) and Nevada (6).
