More than 286,000 people have already died. The incumbent President Donald Trump is ruling out “draconian lockdowns” like in Europe for the USA, despite everything. His designated successor Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris have put together a 7-point plan to fight the pandemic on a national level. Among other things, Biden is aiming for a nationwide mask requirement. The American health authority CDC strongly advises against travel and family visits around all holidays in December. According to the pharmaceutical company ELi Lilly, the American government has secured 650,000 additional units of its experimental coronavirus vaccine. More than half of the coronavirus vaccine doses are expected to be delivered in December.

There is currently an entry ban for Canada. Depending on the region, wearing a mask in public interiors and means of transport is mandatory. A four-week lockdown was ordered for the city of Toronto and one of its suburbs on November 20. However, the schools remain open.
