Stolen vehicle suspect shot by Grand Junction police officer

A suspect of a stolen vehicle was shot by a Grand Junction police officer Sunday after they had initially struck the officer with the vehicle.

At about 12:36 p.m., the Grand Junction Regional Communications Center received a call on a possible location of the stolen vehicle. Grand Junction officers were able to locate it near 29 1/2 Road and Parkway Drive. One of the officers was hit by the vehicle while trying to contact the driver. One suspect was then shot by Grand Junction police.

The officer struck by the vehicle was treated for minor injuries. The suspect who was shot is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. Details on the suspect and the officers involved have yet to be released.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting on behalf of the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
