Paris police suspended after attack on blacks – – today

A black man is said to have not worn a mask and attacked her. There are three French police officers on record. Video recordings show a completely different picture. The outrage over the case of police violence in France is great – also because the publication of such recordings could soon be a criminal offense. For the second time within a week, images of police violence in France are causing outrage: The Parisian public prosecutor’s office is opening an investigation against police officers who hit and kicked a black man because he was not wearing a corona protective mask. The three officers were suspended. France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin had requested this from the Paris Police Prefect Didier Lallement, who is already under pressure because of a brutal police action against refugees. The interior minister is also considered ailing.

The chief of the national police, Frédéric Veaux, temporarily dismissed the three police officers, according to investigators. The public prosecutor’s office accuses them of violence on the job and false statements. The video from a surveillance camera shows how the three policemen crowd a black music producer into his Paris studio and beat him there with blows, kicks and batons. In a written protocol, the police recorded that they had warned the man named “Michel” on the street because he was not wearing a mask as is currently required. “When we tried to hold him, he forcibly dragged us into the building,” the minutes say. It also mentions the man’s beatings against the police. However, this cannot be seen on the studio’s surveillance video, which the Internet platform “Loopsider” published in full.

Led away with drawn arms

The recording also shows other men rushing to the producer’s aid and pushing the police out of the studio. The officers then throw a tear gas grenade through the door and lead “Michel” down with weapons drawn, as cell phone videos of residents show. Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire spoke of “unbearable images” on Twitter. Opposition politicians in the French parliament sharply criticized Interior Minister Darmanin and again demanded that he withdraw a law for “comprehensive security” that would criminalize the distribution of such recordings by police officers. Darmanin was only “shocked” on Tuesday about pictures showing the brutal evacuation of a Parisian refugee camp by the police. On the same day, the National Assembly adopted its “Security Law” at first reading.

With the film ban, Darmanin claims to protect the police, who are complaining of personal attacks after a large number of similar recordings. Media representatives face up to one year imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros for violations. Journalists have been protesting the law for weeks.

Protests against new law Does France restrict freedom of the press?

Because of the incidents, the Paris police prefect Lallement could face dismissal. Before the new videos became known, Interior Minister Darmanin had expressed his “confidence” in him. The interior minister, who is only 38 years old, is under pressure himself: The conservative newspaper “Le Figaro” reported, citing those around President Emmanuel Macron, that Darmanin was “becoming a problem” because of the ban on films. Despite an ongoing investigation into the alleged rape of a former prostitute, he surprisingly came into office in July. In online networks, many users called for the minister to resign. Many also shared a photo of the black music producer and his beaten face. “If it weren’t for the videos, my client might be in jail,” said his lawyer.

A conversation with France’s Prime Minister Jean Castex about the film ban was canceled by media representatives today after the prefecture banned a “March of Freedoms” planned for Saturday in Paris for security reasons. Castex was “stunned” by the journalists’ reaction.
