More than half a million deaths from the coronavirus have now been recorded in Latin America and the Caribbean. There were at least 500,800 corona deaths in the region, according to a count by the AFP news agency. Latin America and the Caribbean are the second world region after Europe with more than 500,000 registered fatalities from the pandemic. In Europe, this mark had been exceeded twelve days earlier. The states in Latin America with the highest numbers of recorded corona deaths are Brazil (around 192,000) and Mexico (around 120,000).
