The number of Covid-19 patients in US hospitals has exceeded the 100,000 mark for the first time. The newspaper “New York Times” reports, citing figures from the Covid Tracking Project. The number is currently 100,226, almost twice as high as since the first wave in spring. According to the report, the surge in hospitals follows a surge in new infections, which are currently more than a million per week. Likewise, the number of deaths in the United States has risen sharply and has now exceeded 270,000 deaths. “The fact that we have so many hospitalizations suggests that we have very poor control of this pandemic. The virus is spreading very quickly and in many places it’s basically got out of hand,” said Philip Landrigan, director of Global Public Health Program at Boston College.
