Cameron Clark is calling it a career after two years with the Jets.

The Jets offensive tackle is retiring from football after he suffered a spinal cord contusion during training camp and missed the entire 2021 season, ESPN reported Wednesday.

“Based on the advice of Dr. Andrew Hecht, a prominent orthopedic surgeon at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, Cameron will not be able to continue to play football for the New York Jets,” Clark’s agent, Alan Herman, told ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

The 24-year-old was expected to compete for a backup role going into the season. But he suffered his injury at the end of practice on Aug. 3 at the training facility in Florham Park.

“A great young man, with a bright future, I am thankful for Cameron’s peace in making his decision, however bittersweet it may be,” Jets coach Robert Saleh told ESPN in a statement. “He made it to the league because of his talent, hard work and attitude and I have every confidence that they will all continue to serve him as he transitions to the next step.”

Clark laid motionless after colliding with a defender during 11-on-11 drills and was transported to a local hospital in New Jersey. The Jets initially believed a full recovery was expected but Clark could risk paralysis if he continued his playing career.

Clark, the Jets’ 2020 fourth-round pick out of Charlotte, ends his career without appearing in an NFL game. He spent the first season weeks of his rookie season on injured reserve and was never activated.
