The numbers of corona deaths and new infections in Iran have reached new highs. According to the Ministry of Health, 486 corona patients died within just one day. During the same period, 13,053 new infections were registered. This means that the total number of corona deaths in the country is currently almost 42,000, and those infected are over 770,000, said ministry spokeswoman Sima Lari on state television. However, the number of cases is likely to be more than twice as high as stated because, according to health experts, there are still too few test options in Iran. In order to stop the drastically increasing number of corona cases, the Islamic Republic is planning to introduce strict and unlimited lockdowns nationwide next weekend.
