Hearing in Michigan – Giuliani presents babbling witness

Paris Violence

More and more Republicans are turning away from Donald Trump, but the elected US president is not giving up. How desperate his fight has become becomes clear in Michigan, where his lawyer brings along an apparently drunk witness. A hearing in the Michigan State Parliament attracted an unusually large amount of attention. It was about the still unsubstantiated allegation by US President Donald Trump that the election on November 3rd had been cheated and that he was the real winner. To support this claim, Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani presented a witness to a Michigan parliamentary committee on Wednesday who was clearly not sober.

The witness Giuliani brought with her is called Melissa Carone, she worked for Dominion, whose voting software Michigan and other states use. Among other things, she said that in Wayne County ballot papers were counted multiple times, that unregistered voters, dead and “illegals” voted and that the turnout was 120 percent.

Trump’s “Bulldog” Rudy Giuliani’s confused fight

When Republican MP Steve Johnson pointed out that the records did not show a deviation of 30,000 votes, Carone said, “What did you guys do? Did you take that and do something crazy with it?” After reiterating his suggestion, Johnson said, “I’d say the records are 100,000 [votes] wrong.” In her exchange with Johnson, she also said, “I know what I saw and I signed something saying that if I lie, I will go to jail. Did you do that too?” Even then she did not sound sober, but seemed to babble. At one point in the hearing, Giuliani bends over to his witness, apparently to appease her. It is not a good sign when Rudy Giuliani of all people says to you, “You are making a fool of yourself,” commented comedian Jimmy Fallon on Thursday on his “Tonight Show”. Then he played an excerpt from the hearing in which Giuliani speaks – and then twice a noise sounds that sounds a lot like intestinal winds. A reporter from the “Huffington Post” shared the relevant clip on Twitter, where the same noises can be heard.

What does he want to protect her from? Trump wants to pardon the closest family circle

According to the Detroit News, a Wayne County judge had already ruled Carone’s testimony as “untrustworthy.” The newspaper also noted that the turnout in Wayne County was 51 percent. Biden’s election victory in Michigan was certified on November 23. Accordingly, Trump got 47.84 percent of the vote, Biden 50.62 percent. Overall, Trump received a good 154,000 fewer votes than Biden. In Wayne County, where the city of Detroit is located, Trump accounted for 30.3 percent. Even Trump’s attorney general, Bill Barr, said there had been no evidence of large-scale election fraud.

“In the realm of madness”

In the more than four-hour hearing, Giuliani tried to get the MPs to take action against the election result. Trump’s personal attorney was even allowed to question witnesses himself, which, as the Detroit News writes, is an “extremely unusual occurrence” at hearings. Usually the MPs question the witnesses.

“We’re not done yet” The anger of women who voted Trump out

Giuliani denied his concern was to get the Michigan Parliament to reoccupy the state’s 16 electorate. But it was clear that this was exactly what he wanted. “Don’t let this be taken away from us,” he said of the election. His appeal had no consequences: Republican MP Aaron Miller said that Giuliani had gone “into the realm of madness” with his statements. At the beginning of the hearing, Democratic MP Darrin Camilleri had asked for Giuliani to be taken under oath, which the committee chairman, a Republican, refused. According to the “Detroit Free Press”, Giuliani then emphasized several times that he was not under oath. Camilleri also pointed to a report in the “New York Times”, according to which Giuliani had talked to Trump about the possibility of a precautionary pardon. The lawyer became very angry and demanded that the MP should be “disciplined” for this. (The sound described above can also be heard at this point in the hearing.) However, committee chairman Matt Hall left it at that, repeatedly interrupting Camilleri with his mallet.

The appearance of Giuliani’s witness was a great success on social media. According to the Washington Post, this video alone had been viewed nine million times by Thursday.
