The Danish government is currently killing millions of mink in fur farms. Apparently, mink are particularly susceptible to the virus. The first infections were found in mid-June. The infection spread quickly in the narrow cages, and in many cases the fur animals also infected people. With the measure, the government hopes to be able to curb the spread of the virus – and time is pressing: According to the state serum institute, particularly dangerous mutations of the virus have already been found in investigations against which the vaccines currently being developed would not work. As the “taz” reports, veterinarians reckon that up to four million animals will have to be killed. According to this, more than 100 mink farms are now said to be affected – the majority of the farms are located in North Jutland.
