In the spring, the French have to endure a tough lockdown. Now the number of infections is exploding again, especially in Paris the virus is spreading at high speed. The country is eagerly awaiting the measures President Macron will announce that evening. France expects stricter measures in the fight against Corona with a view to a TV interview with President Emmanuel Macron. “Everything is imaginable. (…) Nothing is ruled out,” said the Assistant Minister in the Interior Ministry, Marlène Schiappa, on Tuesday when asked about a possible evening curfew on the broadcaster LCI. There are many people who stick to the current measures, but that is not enough. There are therefore other measures on the table that could be considered regionally. As the news agency AFP reported, citing the environment of the president, the 42-year-old could announce a night curfew for metropolitan areas like Paris. Macron wants to speak in an interview on French television on Wednesday evening. The corona situation in the country has been worsening for weeks. France with its around 67 million inhabitants reported almost 27,000 new infections within 24 hours on Saturday – a record.
Highest warning level extended Corona situation in France is becoming more explosive
The highest corona warning level applies in numerous French metropolises, including Paris and Lyon. Bars are closed, and more strict hygiene measures apply in restaurants. The international agricultural fair was canceled for the coming year due to the pandemic, as the organizers announced in the evening. The major event was planned from February 27th to March 7th in Paris. Many French presidents have already appeared at the Salon d’Agriculture. The situation is particularly tense in the greater Paris area. According to the head of the regional health authority, Aurélien Rousseau, 17 percent of the people tested for the corona virus are positive there. Among young people, around 800 people per 100,000 population became infected with the virus in the past seven days. In the past, it has been emphasized again and again that general national exit restrictions, such as those that existed in the spring, should be avoided. In France, the rules were very strict at the time, people were only allowed to go outside with a form. The range of motion and the time in the fresh air were limited, parks and beaches were closed. In view of the now almost 33,000 corona fatalities, drastic measures now seem locally limited again.
