The state of Victoria in southeast Australia has lifted its corona lockdown after several months. Shops, bars, cafes and restaurants are allowed to reopen. The strict requirements have been in place since the beginning of August. Citizens are also allowed to leave their homes again without any major restrictions. However, this initially only applies to a limited extent to the approximately 4.9 million citizens of the capital Melbourne: They are now allowed to move within a radius of 25 kilometers from their home – this restriction is only due to be lifted on November 8th. The exit restriction for people in Melbourne was one of the longest in the world: it was introduced at the beginning of July and was therefore valid for 112 days. At that time, almost 200 new infections were registered every day. The number then rose to 700 in August, before a state of emergency was declared.
