China was the center of the pandemic earlier this year. The country has got the virus under control through drastic measures – like many other Asian countries. However, the number of infections is rising again in many regions of Asia. Local outbreaks also occur time and again in China. China responds to local infections with mass tests, local lockdowns and rigid tracking of infection chains. There is also an emergency program for early vaccination against the coronavirus, in which, according to Sinopharm, almost a million Chinese had been vaccinated by mid-November. Sinopharm’s vaccine is said to be 86 percent effective.
