The hour of the militias. Instead of waiting for the votes to be counted after an election, as is customary in democratic countries, Trump proclaims himself the winner. The stress test to which the US has been subjected for almost four years is entering a dangerous phase. Whether US President Donald Trump won the election is still unclear at the moment. It is possible, but not certain. Only one thing is absolutely certain: it is too early to declare yourself the winner, the counting is still ongoing. And what is Trump doing? He proclaims himself the election winner.

“It’s all extremely confused” Trump wants to stop the count – is that possible?

In doing so, he demonstrates once again what kind of politician he is. Decency, rules, democracy? Doesn’t bother him anything. In the world of this egomaniac, only one thing counts: that he wins, over and over again, regardless of the means. Even Vice President Mike Pence seemed to find Trump’s appearance in the White House excessive. Pence never misses an opportunity to pay homage to his boss. But he did not join the charge of electoral fraud. Nor did he claim that Trump had won the election, merely saying that Trump was “on the way to victory”.  Trump, on the other hand, does what he always does: he accuses his opponents of what he is guilty of. Not he is corrupt, but Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are. It’s not he who has a Ukraine affair on his neck, but Biden’s son, oh well, Biden himself. It is not he who is embarrassingly submissive when dealing with heads of state like Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong Un, but his predecessor Barack Obama. And even if he provides jobs for practically his entire family, it is of course he who is drying up the “swamp” in Washington. He did the same in his appearance in the White House, which was pompously announced with marching music: He accused the Democrats of always planning to defeat him in court. In fact, it was the Republicans who tried to the last to suppress votes through lawsuits. And only moments after formulating the allegation, Trump announced that he would go to the Supreme Court to “end the voting” – he probably meant the counting of the postal votes. Trump probably thinks he has a good chance as there is a conservative majority in the Supreme Court; He brought three of the nine judges into office himself. The fact that at least one of them, Brett Kavanaugh, believes the federal government should be allowed to interfere in the electoral law of states, worried the Democrats during the election campaign. It is currently inconceivable that even these judges will stop the count. But even if there were corresponding fears: Until this morning it was actually inconceivable that a US president would declare himself the winner of an election that had not yet been counted. Trump has claimed on Twitter that the Democrats are trying to “steal” the presidential election. This is not just another lie, but exactly what Trump is trying to do. The horror scenario, which seemed unimaginable, is about to become reality. Trump questions the core of the US democratic system. That he has millions of Americans on his side is a disaster in itself. The stress test to which US democracy has been subjected for almost four years is entering a new, even more dangerous phase.
