Portugal has reported a record of new infections. The health authorities said 3960 infections were recorded within 24 hours in the country with 10.3 million inhabitants. Because of the rapidly increasing numbers, Prime Minister António Costa called a special meeting of his cabinet for Saturday. The socialist government announced that new measures to contain the pandemic will be discussed. The state secretary responsible for health, António Lacerda Sales, said the situation was “critical”. In the country, which got through the Corona crisis comparatively well for a long time, a total of almost 130,000 infections have already been recorded. The number of people who died with Covid-19 climbed by 24 to 2,395 on Wednesday.
