According to the court ruling, the halls don’t even have to stay with classic couples. According to one judgment, halls in Rhineland-Palatinate sex cinemas can be visited by people from two households at the same time without observing a minimum distance. The administrative court in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ruled that the cinema is not a brothel because no sexual services are offered there. The operator of a sex cinema had complained, in the halls of which sexual acts could occur during the showing.

The city of Ludwigshafen had informed the operator that due to the hygiene concept in the wake of the corona pandemic, only people from one household were allowed to occupy a hall because sex leads to increased aerosol emissions. The court did not follow this line of argument. The judges decided that the operator may refer to the currently applicable Corona regulation, which allows meetings of up to ten people or people from two households without a minimum distance. A sex cinema should be seen as a cinema and not as a prostitution site.

Basically, a minimum distance of one and a half meters between the visitors should be observed in cinemas. According to the current Corona regulation, this expressly does not apply to meetings of up to ten people or people from two households. Since October, the operation of brothels in Rhineland-Palatinate has been permitted again in compliance with the protective measures if no more than two people are involved in the services. According to the judges, they also belonged to different households in the “realistic approach”.
