UN removes cannabis from list of most dangerous drugs

The United Nations Narcotics Commission has decided to remove cannabis from a list it classifies as one of the most dangerous drugs. The commission thus approved a recommendation by the World Health Organization, as CNN reported. Previously, the Narcotics Commission listed cannabis and cannabis resin in a group with heroin and other opioids that were not only classified as “addicting” but also as “particularly harmful” and of “extremely limited medical or therapeutic value”. Legalization of cannabis in the UN member states does not pave the way for this decision. Cannabis is still listed as a strictly controlled substance, and now in a lower subgroup – along with cocaine and methadone.
