Moscow celebrates when the temperature is below zero

Wuhan-virus

With fireworks in several places, millions of people in Moscow – Europe’s largest city – celebrated the New Year at sub-zero temperatures. Thousands gathered in Red Square alone, where the clock on the Kremlin struck twelve times to ring in the year 2022. The Russian capital traditionally organizes fireworks in several places, best seen from the skyscraper district of Moskva City or from the Sparrow Hills.

There are no major restrictions on the New Year celebrations due to the corona pandemic. In his New Year’s address, Russian President Vladimir Putin remembered the many corona deaths and encouraged the people. The corona situation has eased slightly, and so far only a few Omicron cases have been reported.

In Moscow, for example, the 2G rule applies in the world-famous Bolshoi Theater. There and in other theaters in the capital the ballet “Nutcracker” was shown on New Year’s Eve. The performances are often sold out months in advance.
