The health authority FHI (Folkehelsemyndigheter) is now investigating whether these variants can be transferred more quickly. Department head Line Vold told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that analyzes of the genetic material showed that the two types are very similar. The one variant, which had already occurred in Australia and other European countries, spread according to the report in a bus with seniors who had made a tour of Norway in September. 36 of the 40 passengers were infected, and a total of 100 infections in different locations are associated with the bus trip.

Nobody had a life-threatening illness, it said. The infected are now being observed in a research project for half a year. “We think that it is a more contagious variant of the virus that was on the bus,” said doctor Heidi Syre, who heads the research project, the NRK.The other variant has so far occurred in two places, according to the report. 80 people were infected in a shipyard in Hyllestad. More than 1000 people are in quarantine in Trondheim after the virus spread from a restaurant since early October. In comparison with other European countries, Norway has so far not been so affected by a second wave of infections. The number of infected people was almost 17,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
