Now vaccination could start soon. The vaccination campaign in the US is scheduled to start on Monday. After the emergency approval of the corona vaccine by the company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer, the drug will be available in numerous hospitals at the beginning of the week, the US authorities said. The first phase of delivery will be completed by Wednesday. In a first step, around three million US citizens are to be vaccinated. The Pfizer Biontech vaccine received emergency approval in the United States on Friday. US General Gus Perna said that the vaccine was now being distributed. He is responsible for the logistics in the course of the government-initiated Corona vaccination project Warp Speed.

The first 145 vaccination centers in clinics and other facilities will receive the vaccine according to plans on Monday morning. 452 facilities are to be supplied on Tuesday and 66 more on Wednesday. US health officials had recommended that health care workers and residents of retirement homes be vaccinated first. Ultimately, however, the individual states decide on it.

Massive pressure from Trump

The US is the sixth country to receive the green light for the vaccine from Biontech and Pfizer. The FDA’s decision came just three weeks after the two companies filed for emergency approval. US President Donald Trump put the drug agency under massive pressure on Friday to issue the emergency approval immediately. Following the FDA’s decision on Friday, he announced the first vaccinations “in less than 24 hours”. Pfizer emphasized, however, that the first batches of the vaccine could only be delivered on Sunday morning. At the Pfizer factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, they are stowed in containers with dry ice to ensure cooling to minus 70 degrees.

Shortly before the FDA, the competent authority in Mexico also issued an emergency approval on Friday.
