The last corona aid will be decided in the USA in April. The money has long been spent and the virus is raging in the country like never before. But for long, Republicans and Democrats cannot agree on a new stimulus package. Now there is finally a compromise. After months of struggle, a bipartisan agreement was reached in the US Congress on a new gigantic aid package against the Corona crisis. “Congress has just reached an agreement. We will pass another aid package as soon as possible,” wrote Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell on Twitter. The agreement was therefore reached between the four heads of the Republicans and the Democrats in the Senate and House of Representatives. The aid package has a volume of almost $ 900 billion (around 740 billion euros) and includes other unemployment benefits, said McConnell in the Senate.

When the US was hit by a historic economic crisis in March as a result of the corona pandemic, Congress passed the largest aid package in US history with a volume of 2.2 trillion dollars. This program included assistance for corporations in need and small and medium-sized businesses, direct payments of $ 1200 to citizens and extended unemployment benefits. The corona pandemic plunged the US economy into a massive crisis in the spring, and millions of people lost their jobs. A rapid economic recovery began in numerous states after the lockdowns. In view of the renewed intensification of the pandemic, however, it has stalled. The USA is currently being overwhelmed by a devastating new corona wave. The country currently has more than 200,000 new corona cases every day, and well over 200 people die from the virus every day.
