Ten things about Broncos practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton, who could be one of the team’s quarterbacks Sunday against New Orleans.
1. Hinton is 23 years old and listed at 6‑foot and 195 pounds. He attended high school in Durham, N.C., and college at Wake Forest.
2. As the quarterback at Southern Durham High School, he threw for 3,972 yards and 39 touchdowns as a junior, leading his team to a state title.
3. Hinton was rated as a three-star high school prospect by 247sports and Rivals.
4. As a true freshman for Wake Forest, Hinton started two of the nine games he appeared in, throwing for 929 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for 390 yards and seven touchdowns.
5. Hinton missed all of his sophomore year because of a sprained ankle and was granted a medical shirt.
6. Back on the field as a redshirt sophomore, Hinton served as the backup quarterback behind John Wolford (now the Los Angeles Rams’ backup). He started against Clemson and was 14-of-30 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns in a 28–14 loss.
7. Wolford departed in 2018 and Hinton was in line to start at quarterback but was suspended three games for violating team rules. He backed up Sam Hartman for the season.
8. In 2019, Hinton initially entered the transfer portal but stayed at Wake Forest, moved to receiver and caught 73 passes (four touchdowns).
9. Hinton wasn’t drafted and signed with the Broncos on April 26. He was waived after training camp and brought back to the practice squad on Nov. 4.
10. Hinton wears No. 2 for the Broncos. If he starts at quarterback, he will be the fourth starter this year, following Drew Lock (Games 1–2), Jeff Driskel (Game 3), Brett Rypien (Game 4) and Lock (Games 5–10).
