He doesn’t want to speak of a victory yet. But things are looking good for Joe Biden. The Democrat leads the way in counting votes for the US presidential election in key states. In a speech, the 77-year-old is already preparing the Americans for measures — because of Corona. Before his likely victory in the US election, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden called for American unity. “We may be opponents, but we are not enemies,” stressed Biden, while the last votes were counted after the presidential election. It is time to put down your anger and heal together as a nation. Biden is ahead in important states and is on the way to victory. The 77-year-old showed little doubt about his victory during his appearance that night. “We’ll win this race by a clear majority and the nation behind us,” he said in his town of Wilmington. This is also shown by the current figures from the states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada, where he is in the lead. At the same time, Biden emphasized that he would not yet declare himself the winner. Incumbent Donald Trump had already claimed victory for himself and claimed without evidence that the Democrats were trying to steal the presidency from him by fraud.
Biden said at the same time that he and Vice-candidate Kamala Harris had already started working on measures against the corona pandemic, among other things. The Americans who have already died can no longer be helped — but “we can save many lives in the future.” Biden accuses Trump of having failed in the Corona crisis and thereby unnecessarily causing the deaths of many Americans. The number of new infections every day rose to record levels of more than 120,000 this week. The counting of Tuesday’s election results continued. With the current state of the race, Biden would only have to win the state of Pennsylvania with its 20 voters in order to secure the majority of 270 voters necessary for victory. After the races that have already been decided in the majority of the US states, the former Vice President under Barack Obama already has at least 253 votes. He was also ahead in Georgia, Arizona and Nevada. In contrast, things looked good for Trump in North Carolina and Alaska — which, however, would not be enough for him.
Trump in the victim role
The count is dragging on in this year’s US election because of the high turnout and the corona pandemic. Many states had adjusted their rules for postal voting, among other things, so as not to expose voters to the risk of infection in the election office. Millions of Americans made use of it. The president is not elected directly in the USA, but by an electoral assembly (Electoral College) in December. The inauguration is scheduled to take place on January 20, 2021. Trump has already made it clear that he will not accept defeat and will defend himself, among other things, with a wave of lawsuits. “I had such a big lead in all of these states until late election night, only to see all the lead miraculously disappear as the days went by,” the 74-year-old wrote on Twitter. “Perhaps all the lead will return as our legal process moves forward!”
