At the same time, he tried to spread con­fi­dence. “If you look back on our his­to­ry, you can see that the soul of our nation was forged under the most dif­fi­cult of circumstances.”

Biden warned that the num­ber of new infec­tions detect­ed from the cur­rent 160,000 per day will soon rise to 200,000 and could over­load the health­care sys­tem in some places. The day before Thanks­giv­ing, Johns Hop­kins Uni­ver­si­ty count­ed over 2,400 Covid-19 deaths with­in 24 hours. The num­bers last looked worse at the end of June.
