The fatal assas­si­na­tion attempt on an Iran­ian nuclear physi­cist is caus­ing increased con­cern in Berlin: The For­eign Office fears an esca­la­tion in the dis­pute between the USA, Israel and Iran. It fits that Wash­ing­ton is order­ing an air­craft car­ri­er back into the Per­sian Gulf — as a deter­rent. After a fatal attack on an Iran­ian nuclear sci­en­tist, the Fed­er­al For­eign Office urged cau­tion. The office informed the news­pa­pers of the Funke media group with a view to pos­si­ble nego­ti­a­tions on Iran’s nuclear pro­gram that it was urg­ing “all par­ties involved to refrain from tak­ing steps that could lead to a fur­ther esca­la­tion of the sit­u­a­tion.” “We are very con­cerned about the reports from Iran,” stressed a spokeswoman.
