US President Donald Trump has again downplayed the danger of the corona virus and accused the media of exaggerating the pandemic for political reasons. The number of new infections is only increasing because so much is being tested in the United States, Trump said in a tweet on Monday. He spoke of a “fake news media conspiracy”. The “corrupt” and misinformed media exploited the pandemic until the November 3rd election in order to harm it, wrote Trump. “On November 4th the topic will change completely.” The number of new corona infections reported daily has recently risen to around 70,000 in the USA. The increase is significantly faster than that of the tests. Experts warn that the USA is facing a new corona wave with the start of the cold season. A sudden disappearance of the pandemic as a hot topic in the US media after the election therefore seems extremely unlikely. According to data from the University of Johns Hopkins, the United States, a country of 330 million people, has so far found 8.6 million confirmed infections and 225,000 deaths — more than in any other country. In his tweets, Trump also renewed his statement that “young people” will “get well again very quickly” after suffering from Covid 19. Renowned health experts have labeled this argument, made repeatedly by Trump, as misleading and dangerous. Severe disease courses in younger people are rare, but not impossible. They can also infect older people or people with previous illnesses for whom Covid is much more dangerous.
