The Broncos were scheduled to begin practice at 9:15 a.m., but there has been no activity on the fields.
The team had a previously scheduled team meeting at 8 a.m.
Around the NFL, Green Bay, Tennessee, Arizona, Washington, Indianapolis and the New York Jets cancelled their practices (or all team activities) to follow the lead of the NBA, whose players boycotted three playoff games in Orlando on Wednesday. Three baseball games — Dodgers-San Francisco, Seattle-San Diego and Cincinnati-Milwaukee — were also postponed.
The Detroit Lions cancelled a practice earlier this week.
The actions are in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis., on Sunday.
The Milwaukee Bucks led the way, refusing to face the Orlando Magic in Game 5 of the teams’ Eastern Conference first-round series. Shortly thereafter, the NBA announced that the Houston-Oklahoma City and Lakers-Portland games would also be rescheduled.
This morning in the NFL, practices went on as scheduled for Tampa Bay, Dallas, Baltimore and New England. Jacksonville delayed its practice two hours while conducting a team meeting.
On June 6, nearly 50 Broncos players and 20 coaches marched in downtown Denver to protest the death of George Floyd after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes. Safety Kareem Jackson organized the event.
Before marching, the Broncos’ party gathered across the street from the Capitol and several players spoke to the assembled crowd, including inside linebacker Alexander Johnson, safety Justin Simmons and outside linebackers Jeremiah Attaochu and Von Miller.
During his address, Simmons said: “We play for the Denver Broncos, but we’re not here today as the Broncos. I’m here today as Justin Simmons, a member of the Denver community.”
