Protesters, demonstration leaders arrested in connection to rallies in Aurora

Six protesters face criminal charges in connection to protests in Aurora, including some of the leaders of the demonstrations, prosecutors announced Thursday.

All of the protesters — Lillian House, Joel Northam, Terrance Roberts, Whitney Lucero, Trey Quinn and John Ruch — face felonies. Some face charges for allegedly inciting a riot and theft, according to news releases from the 17th and 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Offices.

The charges are connected to demonstrations held in Aurora on June 27, July 3, July 12 and July 25.

House and Roberts have been the face of protests in Denver and Aurora over the summer. House was an organizer for the Party of Socialism and Liberation, which has led massive demonstrations. Roberts is a well-known activist and community organizer in Denver and Aurora.

“We support the First Amendment right of people to protest peacefully in our community but there is a difference between a peaceful protests and a riot,” 17th District Attorney Dave Young said in a news release. “When individuals cross the line and break the law, they will be prosecuted.”

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
