For the first time since the first Corona wave in spring, the Paris hospitals have to cancel operations that are not absolutely necessary. Starting next weekend, 20 percent of the planned operations will initially be postponed. This was announced by the public hospital association Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP). The reason is the pressure on the intensive care units as a result of the corona infection numbers, which have been rising for weeks. On Wednesday, 132 intensive care patients were treated with the lung disease Covid-19, which is caused by the novel coronavirus, in public hospitals in Paris. That was a good two and a half times as many as in early September when there were 50 patients. An increase to more than 200 corona emergencies is expected by next week, as AP-HP’s deputy director François Crémieux said.
