Orlando Franklin leaving 104.3 The Fan to join 49ers coaching staff

The for­mer Bron­cos offen­sive tack­le and co-host of “Orlan­do and Sandy” on Mon­day announced he is leav­ing 104.3 The Fan after two years to join 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s staff.

“While it’s bit­ter­sweet leav­ing my radio show here on The Fan,” he said, “the chance to con­tin­ue learn­ing from Coach Shana­han work­ing close­ly with my father-in-law (49ers run­ning back coach) Bob­by Turn­er was one I just couldn’t pass up.”

Franklin, 33, was one of San Francisco’s three Bill Walsh NFL Diver­si­ty Coach­ing Fel­lows dur­ing train­ing camp where he worked with the team’s offen­sive linemen.

Pri­or to join­ing The Fan, Franklin was a stand­out guard and tack­le at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mia­mi. He was draft­ed by the Bron­cos in the sec­ond round (46th over­all pick) of the 2011 NFL draft. He played in Den­ver for four sea­sons and lat­er had stints with the Charg­ers, Saints and Washington.

Franklin’s last show will be on Tuesday.
