The coro­n­avirus con­tin­ues to spread rapid­ly in India, while restric­tions on pub­lic life are being eased in some states. The Min­istry of Health announced that 94,372 new infec­tions were detect­ed with­in 24 hours. With over 8,200, most of them are in the largest and rich­est state of Maha­rash­tra. There are now more than a mil­lion infect­ed peo­ple there — about as many as in Rus­sia. Over 4.7 mil­lion cas­es of infec­tion are reg­is­tered through­out India — this is the high­est num­ber world­wide after the USA. The num­ber of deaths relat­ed to the virus rose by 1,114 to 78,586.
