A 54-year-old man was arrest­ed Thurs­day night after he fired mul­ti­ple shots inside and out­side a south Lake­wood home, police said.

At about 3:55 p.m. offi­cers respond­ed to the 900 block of South Sheri­dan Boule­vard on a report of shots fired, police said in a news release.

Sur­round­ing neigh­bors were told to stay inside their homes and shel­ter in place. The West Metro SWAT Team respond­ed to the scene.

Over sev­er­al hours, police attempt­ed to per­suade the sus­pect, iden­ti­fied as Ver­non Hazel, to exit the home. Instead, Hazel fired inter­mit­tent gun rounds.

At about 10:35 p.m., the SWAT team entered the home and arrest­ed Hazel with­out fur­ther inci­dent, police said. No one was injured.

Hazel was arrest­ed and jailed on sus­pi­cion of ille­gal dis­charge of a firearm.
