For the approximately ten million residents of the Los Angeles district in the US west coast state of California, even stricter corona requirements will apply at the beginning of the new week. All citizens are urged to “stay at home as much as possible,” as an order on Friday said. Anyone who leaves their house must always wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose. All public and private gatherings with people from another household are prohibited. Exceptions apply only to church services and demonstrations, which are particularly protected by the constitution. The new requirements should initially apply for three weeks. Restaurants and bars should continue to only offer take-away food and drinks, it said. In shops there are also upper limits for occupancy. In supermarkets, for example, only a third of the normally maximum permitted customers are allowed to shop, and in shopping centers only a fifth. The Los Angeles district, to which the city of the same name also belongs, last reported an average of 4,750 new corona infections per day. Almost 1900 people are currently being treated in hospital for Covid-19, a quarter of them in intensive care units, it said.
