For the first time, more than 1000 new corona infections were counted within one day in Lithuania. According to the health authority in Vilnius, 1001 cases were registered within 24 hours in the Baltic EU country. In the same period, eight people died as a result of the virus — more than ever in a day since the pandemic began. Lithuania with just under three million inhabitants now has a total of 14,824 confirmed infections and 165 deaths. According to the EU authority ECDC, the development of the corona numbers is currently worse than in Germany. In view of the rapidly increasing number of corona infections, the government in Vilnius recently placed 21 of the 60 municipalities in the Baltic Sea state under local quarantine.
