For the first time, more than 1000 new coro­na infec­tions were count­ed with­in one day in Lithua­nia. Accord­ing to the health author­i­ty in Vil­nius, 1001 cas­es were reg­is­tered with­in 24 hours in the Baltic EU coun­try. In the same peri­od, eight peo­ple died as a result of the virus — more than ever in a day since the pan­dem­ic began. Lithua­nia with just under three mil­lion inhab­i­tants now has a total of 14,824 con­firmed infec­tions and 165 deaths. Accord­ing to the EU author­i­ty ECDC, the devel­op­ment of the coro­na num­bers is cur­rent­ly worse than in Ger­many. In view of the rapid­ly increas­ing num­ber of coro­na infec­tions, the gov­ern­ment in Vil­nius recent­ly placed 21 of the 60 munic­i­pal­i­ties in the Baltic Sea state under local quarantine.
