In Latvia, the num­ber of new coro­na infec­tions reached a record lev­el for the sec­ond day in a row. In the Baltic EU coun­try, 367 pos­i­tive tests were record­ed with­in 24 hours, accord­ing to the health author­i­ty. The pre­vi­ous high from the pre­vi­ous day was 313. Latvia, with just under 1.9 mil­lion inhab­i­tants, has so far record­ed 7,119 con­firmed coro­n­avirus infec­tions and 85 deaths relat­ed to the virus. The dai­ly num­ber of infec­tions had recent­ly increased sig­nif­i­cant­ly — but more was also test­ed. Accord­ing to the EU author­i­ty ECDC, the devel­op­ment in the Baltic state is cur­rent­ly even bet­ter than in Ger­many. In view of the increas­ing num­ber of infec­tions, the gov­ern­ment in Riga wants to decide on a pos­si­ble coro­na emer­gency on Friday.
