Johnson justifies high corona numbers in Great Britain with the British ‘love for freedom

Why are the coro­na infec­tion num­bers in Great Britain so high com­pared to many oth­er Euro­pean coun­tries? Accord­ing to the British oppo­si­tion, con­tact trac­ing and the test­ing pro­gram are not work­ing prop­er­ly. Prime Min­is­ter Boris John­son, how­ev­er, rejects this and now makes the fol­low­ing state­ment: There is “an impor­tant dif­fer­ence between our coun­try and many oth­er coun­tries in the world, name­ly that our coun­try is a free­dom-lov­ing coun­try,” he said. In the past 300 years, “vir­tu­al­ly all progress, from free­dom of expres­sion to democ­ra­cy,” has come from Britain, he added. “It is very dif­fi­cult to require the British peo­ple to fol­low the rules con­sis­tent­ly as necessary.”
