My FIL died last week and is being buried on this coming Friday. He was a retired Colonel in the USA Infantry, a veteran of WW2, a former professor at the War College and the Industrial College, and a West Point Graduate. Because of the Corna virus, there will only be a small graveside service. The family has requested a bugler from the local military base to play taps. The base has requested a copy of his certificate of honorable discharge. We can’t find it but do have his retired military ID which has a retirement ID number, and his DOD benefits number. There is a lot of paper to sort through and we are not hopeful about finding that particular piece of paper in time to arrange a bugler from the base. I know that there is a procedure for requesting a duplicate copy of the certificate but I expect that will take a lot longer than we have. Any suggestions are welcome.
