Germany is giving away surplus ventilators

In spring, at the height of the Corona crisis, there were mainly concerns about an impending shortage of intensive care beds with ventilation options. So the federal government tried to get as many civil service equipment as possible. It concluded contracts with several German medical technology manufacturers for the delivery of more than 26,000 devices. As the “Spiegel” reports, citing the response from the Ministry of Health to a small request from FDP MP Christoph Hoffmann, 7691 of these have already been delivered. Much more than is needed in Germany. And thousands are still being produced and delivered. On the one hand, the government is trying to at least partially cancel the orders. On the other hand, devices are given away to countries where they are needed even more urgently. 197 devices were donated to Spain, Italy and France according to the report. A larger delivery is to be given away to the states of the Western Balkans.
