U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner and Democratic challenger John Hickenlooper agreed Wednesday to a second debate — the first that will be televised — in their nationally ed race.
The Denver Post, Denver7 and Colorado Public Radio will host the in-person debate at 5 p.m. Oct. 9. It will be held at Denver7’s studio and aired live, including on The Post’s website. Because of the pandemic, there will be no in-person audience.
The candidates’ campaigns have been challenging each other to debates since May, with each side putting out a list of accepted invitations. Previously, the Pueblo Chieftain’s Oct. 2 debate was the only one on both lists.
The race is one of the most closely ed in the country as Republicans seek to hold onto their narrow Senate majority. Colorado’s demographics have edged left in recent years, and Hickenlooper is a well-known former governor, although he was found guilty of two ethics violations just before his Democratic primary win.
