An English-language song and dance version of the children’s song “Baby Shark” has overtaken the hit “Despacito” as the most viewed video on YouTube. “Baby Shark swims to the top of YouTube with 7.04 billion YouTube views,” said Pingfong, an educational brand from South Korean entertainment company SmartStudy, on social media. The version of the song, which goes back to a traditional nursery rhyme, is officially the most viewed video in YouTube history. The video “Baby Shark Dance” was released in June 2016 and “Despacito” by Puerto Rican pop star Luis Fonsi was released a year later. According to media reports, employees of a prison in the US state of Oklahoma are said to have tortured inmates with the children’s hit. The inmates were forced to listen to the song at full volume for hours.
