The Aus­tralian police arrest­ed more than one in three pro­test­ers dur­ing a demon­stra­tion against coro­na require­ments in Mel­bourne. The police said there were 74 arrests at the ral­ly with 200 to 250 par­tic­i­pants. 176 peo­ple were fined for vio­lat­ing health pro­tec­tion reg­u­la­tions. There were also scuf­fles between riot police and demon­stra­tors. Mel­bourne is the focal point of the oth­er­wise rel­a­tive­ly mod­er­ate virus out­break in Aus­tralia. On Mon­day, a strict lock­down in the metrop­o­lis that has been in place for weeks will be eased slight­ly: Peo­ple will then be allowed to stay out­side for two hours — instead of the pre­vi­ous hour.
