US journalists attribute the fact that Joe Biden managed to conquer a deeply red state like Georgia for decades to one woman: Stacey Abrams. The Democrat ran for Georgia in the 2018 gubernatorial election, and lost. After that, however, she did important work on the grassroots: she founded non-profit organizations to protect voter rights, she campaigned for greater voter registration in black communities and she repeatedly emphasized: Georgia can become “blue” — that is, democratic.
Biden builds a narrow lead in Georgia
In Georgia, Biden is pushing ahead of Trump. The Democrat now has a lead of 1096 votes over Donald Trump. 99 percent of the nearly five million votes cast have now been counted.
