I would never ignore the legal side when giving up the rights to my work. I am — even if I am a sympathizer of the Pirate Party and do not fall into convulsions when it comes to downloading radio plays — careful to protect the rights.
I discontinued the book at Smashwords so that I could also offer it on the iPhone. For this purpose, I checked the legal page beforehand and found it very clear in the Smashwords FAQ:
Do I own my copyright if I publish with Smashwords?
You own your copyright. When you publish with Smashwords, you grant Smashwords a non-exclusive right to publish, promote and distribute your book, as well as samples of your book. Because the relationship is non-exclusive, you can publish and distribute via other services, if you wish.
This means that I can pass on the rights, for example for dubbing.
As for a setting — whether the text is suitable for it or not must be decided by those who are familiar with it. These are the two texts that I can offer due to the rights. I also have a short, crisp horror-themed novella, also from Scribd. I can offer that too. It’s also not about my setting something to music, I don’t even want to impose it. I just wanted to give MacGyver something to hand because we have known each other for a long time and I also have a few texts that I freely hand over.
I know that I have a style that doesn’t make it easy to use as a radio play. Every now and then I chat, write secondary scenes that do not go along with the demands on action and tension that one puts in a radio play. This is simply because I am not writing for this market, but primarily when I am sitting at the Mac, with the reader in mind, not the listener. 🙂 That shouldn’t sound arrogant or derogatory.
Legally, I can say that the texts are on the safe side. As far as the soundproofing is concerned, I have to pass, sorry.
