The num­ber of new infec­tions with the coro­na virus con­tin­ues to rise rapid­ly in Aus­tria. The Min­istry of the Inte­ri­or in Vien­na report­ed 8241 new cas­es with­in 24 hours. In addi­tion, more than 3000 patients with the virus are being treat­ed in a hos­pi­tal — more than ever before dur­ing the pan­dem­ic. 432 infect­ed peo­ple need­ed care in an inten­sive care unit. The num­ber of peo­ple who died rose by 37 to 1,377. In order to pre­vent the hos­pi­tals from becom­ing over­loaded, there has been a par­tial lock­down in Aus­tria for at least four weeks since Tues­day. The gas­tron­o­my and almost the entire cul­tur­al and leisure offer were closed. Between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. you can only leave the apart­ment for good rea­son. The trade and most schools have remained open so far. Austria’s Health Min­is­ter Rudolf Anschober indi­cat­ed pos­si­ble fur­ther tight­en­ing. If more than 850 inten­sive care beds are occu­pied by coro­na patients, new mea­sures to con­tain the virus can­not be ruled out.
