The Mississippi alligator was born in the United States in 1936 and was later brought to the Berlin Zoo. He broke out of the zoo during a bombing raid on November 23, 1943. British soldiers found him again in 1946 and handed him over to the Soviet authorities. According to the Moscow Zoo, “a mystery” is where he stayed in the three years in between. “Saturn” finally arrived in Moscow in July 1946. At that time rumors arose that it was part of Adolf Hitler’s personal collection.
