The three dogs have proven to be popular “corona testers” among travelers, said the researchers from the University of Helsinki. According to the information, the results largely agree with the results of the corona tests, which were also carried out on the passengers. “We performed 16,000 to 17,000 PCR tests at the airport and less than one percent of them are positive,” said Vantaa City Deputy Mayor Timo Aronkyto to journalists. Now the researchers want to check whether the dogs were actually able to sniff out all the infections that were also confirmed by corona tests. The final results should be presented at the end of the year. According to the researchers, preliminary attempts at the first major wave of infections at the beginning of the year indicated that the dogs can detect the virus with almost 100 percent accuracy – up to five days earlier than a corona test.
