More than 50,000 new infections were reported in Spain over the weekend. With the 52,188 newly registered infections, the total number of cases increases to almost 1.1 million, as the Ministry of Health reports. The number of deaths related to Covid-19 increased by 279 to 35,031. A state of emergency was declared in Spain for six months on Sunday, which means that nocturnal curfews can be imposed everywhere with the exception of the Canary Islands. But the government received criticism as early as Monday: Oppositionists regard the duration as too long, scientists consider the measures to be insufficient and some Spaniards are storming the curfews.
