In the fight against the pandemic, the number is an important indicator: Over a million Germans have already received the first dose of corona vaccine. The vaccination rate is also increasing nationwide. There are, however, major differences between the federal states. The number of corona vaccinations in Germany has exceeded one million. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a total of 1,048,160 vaccinations on Saturday afternoon, 79,759 more than the day before. The vaccination rate rose to 1.26 percent. So far, the first of two vaccine doses has been injected almost exclusively. On Friday, some people in a nursing home in Halberstadt in Saxony-Anhalt received the second dose for the first time.
Since the vaccination campaign began around three weeks ago, the number of complete vaccinations should increase significantly in the coming days. After the second injection, it usually takes a week before full vaccination protection is assumed. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania remains the front runner when it comes to vaccinations, with a vaccination rate of 2.34 percent, ahead of Schleswig-Holstein with 1.92 percent. Baden-Württemberg comes in last with a rate of 0.90 percent, behind Thuringia with 1.03 percent. On Friday, an announcement by the US manufacturer Pfizer caused irritation that significantly less vaccine from Pfizer’s German partner Biontech could be delivered in the coming weeks due to renovation work in a plant in Puurs, Belgium. According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the expected next delivery on January 18 is not affected. Biontech also announced on Friday evening that a return to the previous schedule for deliveries would be possible from January 25, and that deliveries would even be increased from February 15. The effects of the bottleneck on Germany were therefore initially unclear. No deliveries have been planned between January 18th and 25th. The total volume of deliveries of the Biontech vaccine in the first quarter should in any case not be lower, according to the companies and authorities.
